What is Bagasse?

Bagasse is a renewable and biodegradable raw material obtained after extracting juice from sugarcane. It is the main component used to manufacture EcoFibre molded bagasse products. Until recently, sugarcane bagasse was usually disposed of or left to rot. Today, it is used as a leading renewable resource to produce tableware, medical and eco-friendly consumer packaging.

Benefits and Uses of Bagasse

number10

Renewable and Sustainable

Bagasse is renewable and sustainable as it comes with each harvest of the sugarcane crop. Its use as a fuel also leaves very little impact on the environment. It is important to note that bagasse is not wood and we are in no way helping deforestation. Unlike deforestation which means cutting down trees, its use to manufacture eco-friendly disposable tableware is both sustainable and practical.
number11

Biodegradable & Compostable

Bagasse products are biodegradable and compostable. This means that the products can decompose naturally as well as in a commercial composting facility. After using a bagasse product, it can be composted and used as an eco-friendly fertilizer which makes land drought-resilient. This use of bagasse thus helps to grow more plants by improving soil quality. In short, bagasse is compostable and returns to the earth, thereby helping future plant growth

Alternative to plastic, styrofoam and PLA

Sugarcane Bagasse is an ideal alternative to paper, plastic styrofoam and PLA. Plastic products use a considerable amount of oil and gas in their manufacture. Bagasse products are energy efficient as they require less energy to manufacture. These products decompose within 90 days unlike plastics which take up to 400 years to degrade and styrofoam which does not decompose at all. As Bagasse products decompose the fastest, they are the most eco-friendly among all food packaging materials. Its use in the eco-friendly food packaging is therefore increasing day by day.

Bagasse is the future of sustainable packaging

Durable, stronger and firmer than plastic

It is safe to use bagasse products in the microwave and refrigerator as well. Unlike plastic tableware which gets deformed in the microwave, our products have amazing heat-resilient properties. A similar property of bagasse is that it is damp-proof. This means that moisture can neither affect food nor the food container. Because of its strength and durability, its use is getting more common than ever.
number14

Leakage-proof/oil and liquid-resistant

These ecofriendly products are designed with an oil and waterproof construction to prevent leaks or spillage. The containers offer reliable strength without containing any paper or wax lining. Hotel and restaurant owners, wholesale soft drink suppliers, and small food-service businesses are increasing the use of this ecofriendly tableware for this very reason.
